Innovation Network

Background to the Innovation Network

Innovation is the lifeblood of business. Cardiff University’s highly successful Innovation Network is a melting pot of new ideas and how to put them into practice. A mix of people from business, industry, finance and academia get together in an informal atmosphere to listen, to learn, to talk and to network. Ideas are exchanged, problems are discussed, expertise is shared, solutions are sought.

"A highly regarded network between the university, Welsh companies and business intermediaries. This initiative is frequently held up as a prime example of best practice in this field of activity." -
The National Assembly for Wales.

The Right Environment

Good ideas need fertile soil. Whether you’re taking your first steps or are already well on your way to achieving your aims, the Innovation Network will point you in the right direction. It’s your avenue to the advice you really need. You’ll find engineers talking to business development advisors, manufacturers making contact with funders, enterprises plugging into university expertise. It’s an invaluable resource of ongoing advice – and it’s free.

"I was genuinely surprised by the many ways people were bringing fresh thinking to their businesses. It's an attitude of mind as much as anything else. It certainly fired me up to take positive action." - Mary Sinclair-Porter, Underwriting Operations Manager, Legal & General.

Big idea, Small idea

Everyone benefits from the Innovation Network’s interchange and interaction. Ideas come in all shapes and sizes. Bring yours along – or just come with an appetite to innovate. Small, sustained improvements can lead to big increases in profitability. Big ideas can involve radical, highly original initiatives – or looking at an old problem in a fresh, new way.

"Attending Innovation Network events is tremendously helpful to my business and me. I learned much more about taking my ideas to market and protecting my intellectual property rights. And I’m still learning." - Professor Stuart Woodhead, MLT Research Limited.
