This one day conference showcased the work of Cardiff University spin-out and start-up companies, including
Agrisense,
Medaphor,
Forensic Resources,
DECIPHer IMPACT and
Total Students.
Through a series of presentations and workshops delegates learned of the highs and lows of setting up in business, with specific guidance for academics and postgraduates considering establishing a Cardiff University spin-out company or a start-up.
Highlights included the success of graduate Abi Carter, Forensic Resources Ltd - a Business Dynamo Role Model and South Wales “Female Entrepreneur of the Year” – and of Owen Jones, AgriSense BCS Ltd – a 25 year business stalwart, who talked through the growth phase and maturity phase of business and the lessons learned.
Over 100 delegates attended the one day event, which included presentations from Cllr Neil McEvoy, Cardiff Council and David Baynes of
Fusion IP.
The event was opened by Professor Hywel Thomas, (Pro Vice-Chancellor Engagement & International) and Professor Elizabeth Treasure (Deputy Vice-Chancellor) Cardiff University and closed with a debate led by Dr Nick Bourne (Deputy Director Commercial Development) on working in partnership and the next steps.
The one day event was held at the SWALEC Stadium (Cardiff) in association with
