The evening’s presentation features one of the UK’s leading entrepreneurs, Ajaz Ahmed, who co-founded the internet service provider (ISP) Freeserve. His eureka moment came when he bought a computer at PC World in Leeds but no-one in the store could tell him how to get onto the Internet. After much persuasion, Dixons launched Freeserve in September 1998, and it became the UK’s largest ISP in just three short months. Through leadership and acute business acumen, Ajaz helped revolutionise internet usage in Europe and saw Freeserve through its flotation and the £1.6bn sale to Wanadoo.
Ajaz will be sharing his experiences in setting up Freeserve and the lessons he learnt. Since Freeserve, he has been working with a number of small companies and Ajaz will be discussing what it takes to make a company savvy and the tools required for market success.
