2011 - Innovation Award
Winners:

Cardiff School of Biosciences
Nicola Randles, Cymtox Ltd and Prof David Lloyd, Cardiff School of Biosciences
A 2011 Innovation Award has been presented to Cymtox and Cardiff School of Biosciences for an on-going collaboration which took academic research into bioluminescent bacteria and developed a novel method of monitoring water toxicity.
The Biosciences team successfully grew a bacterium which can identify traces of contamination and provide an alert to this by lighting up in water.
With assistance from the Cardiff Partnership Fund, Welsh Assembly Government, and the Cardiff Business Technology Centre Cymtox worked with the School to develop this research expertise, floating the company on AIM in 2006.
This resulted in the commercialisation of Cymtox’s Continuous Toxicity Monitor (CTM) with early product sales in China in 2010.
