041109: Economic Management in Difficult Times Lecture - Lord Terence Burns

On Wednesday 4th November Cardiff University and its internationally outstanding Business School will be hosting an evening lecture from the distinguished Lord Terence Burns on “Economic Management in Difficult Times”.  
An Honorary Fellow of Cardiff University, Lord Burns is Chairman of Abbey National plc and Glas Cymru Ltd (Welsh Water).  He is also a non-executive director of Banco Santander Central Hispano SA and the Pearson Group.  He is also Chairman of the Governing Board of the Royal Academy of Music.  

In his lecture, Lord Burns will consider the current economic environment in the context of the recessions he has experienced in his working life - as an economic researcher at London Business School; as Chief Economic Adviser to the Government; as Permanent Secretary at Her Majesty's Treasury; and as Chairman of Abbey.

He will discuss the consequences for monetary and fiscal policy of recent events and the challenges facing the authorities in the period ahead.
