12th April Event: Frontiers in Bioscience: Mechanical Loading of Tissues
Tuesday 12 April 2011
This free event is organised by the Newport & District Materials Society (NDMS) and the speakers are Dr Catherine Holt and Dr Debbie Mason, Cardiff University, School of Biosciences.
Biological research presents unparalleled opportunities and challenges for basic science and its exploitation to benefit health and the environment. Dr Holt and Dr Mason will talk about linking Cardiff University's Arthritis Research Centre.
The lecture will focus on exciting new developments carried out within the Cardiff Centre, sponsored by Arthritis Research UK. The lecture will link the mechanical loading of tissues within the human joint - for example bone, cartilage - with biological changes that accompany arthritis and degenerative joint disease. Answers will be given to why we experience pain and inflammation for example, and how this is particularly noticeable with diseases like Arthritis.
This is not an Innovation Network event.
This event is organised by NDMS* and is being held at Cardiff Engineering School, Trevithick Building,
14-17, The Parade, Cardiff, CF24 3AA.
Refreshments from 5:30 pm for 6:00 lecture; buffet and networking to follow.
