7th December Event: Forensic Engineering

Thursday 02 December 2010
This free event is organised by NDMS - Newport & District Materials Society - and the speaker is Professor Alan Smith.
Prof Smith will deliver a lecture on Forensic Engineering, a relatively new multi-disciplinary engineering field. The lecture will examine the origins of the subject and contrast this with the more established Forensic Science.

"We live in an increasingly litigious society and where engineering products have failed, appropriately qualified, engineers are called to offer an informed opinion to settle disputes. This presentation will offer some interesting examples of Forensic investigations which would suggest that engineers, from all disciplines, are reluctant to learn from the mistakes of the past and have consistently repeated them.

Whilst failure is a unifying theme in engineering it need not have a negative or litigious outcome and this presentation will also show how forensic investigation has been used to inform and augment research and product development."

This is not an Innovation Network event.

This event is organised by NDMS* and is being held in Newport on Tuesday 7th December, from 5.30pm, with buffet and networking after the presentation.
