Chris Evans rates new Invention from Cardiff University Graduate

Tuesday 20 January 2009
Andrew Reason, a Cardiff University architecture graduate, spent 12 years researching and developing the Reason Washing Machine, launched on February 6th 2009.
The Reason washing machine weighs the laundry and automatically doses the right amount of detergent, softener and water, meaning nothing is wasted. Its drawer-style drum eliminates bending down and the machine holds twice as much as the standard machine in the same dimensions.

"We are involved in an industry which turns over billions of pounds annually, but which has produced nothing genuinely new in the last 20 years," said Andrew Reason, MD of Reason Ltd. "What marks us apart is the creativity and vision of our team which is why we have been able to design such a groundbreaking product …with 22 patented new inventions the innovation is there for everyone to see…”

Chris Evans called the machine "brilliant” on the innovation slot of his recent drive time radio show, labelling it the "no excuses washing machine."

Cardiff University's Manufacturing Engineering Centre (MEC), worked with Reason on the project. The innovative collaboration with Cardiff University was recognised by the University’s Innovation Awards of 2004, which awarded a prize to Reason and the MEC (at the time, treated anonymously, due to the confidentiality of the project).

The machine has also been launched in an innovative way: the UK's first 200 individually numbered and handmade machines will be sold in a unique online auction opening on February 6th. Auctions in the USA, Japan and Europe will follow.
