Olympics: Helping Welsh Businesses Compete To Win

Thursday 24 February 2011
The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has organised two free events to encourage businesses in Wales to bid for London 2012 Olympics contracts.
To date, Olympic Games contracts won by Welsh companies are valued at around £37m; ca £700m worth of contracts have yet to be awarded.

Opportunities exist in eight categories, described as particularly suitable for small and medium-sized companies. These range from catering & sporting equipment; to mobility vehicles and office furniture and from portable water to outdoor furniture. Licensing opportunities to produce, distribute and market London 2012 branded merchandise are also included.

Around 10-20 new Olympics-related contracts are posted on the CompeteFor website each week by the London 2012 Organising Committee (Locog). This website is part funded by WAG to ensure Welsh companies can register their details, get alerts about new tendering opportunities and also express an interest in tendering.

In addition, the WAG Supplier Development Service offers support to Welsh companies that tender for these contracts, working with SMEs to provide practical assistance to help them secure public and private sector contracts".

The Assembly Government is planning two free events in March to raise awareness among relevant suppliers of the remaining tendering opportunities and the support available:

8th March:     Cardiff
22nd March:   Llandudno
