South Wales Chamber of Commerce Opens Cardiff Office
Monday 26 January 2009
The new South Wales Chamber of Commerce opened its Cardiff office on the 19th January, followed by its official launch at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay on the 26th January.
The Chamber will provide support for businesses in Cardiff and the surrounding areas following the collapse of the city’s own chamber of commerce a year ago. It has been formed from Newport’s chamber and Jon Hollins - who fronted NGb2b’s in Cardiff following the collapse of the capital’s chamber - will man the South Wales Chamber of Commerce office, along with business development consultant, and Lesley Lewis, international trade coordinator.
The South Wales Chamber’s executive set up will see managing director David Russ spread time between Cardiff and Newport.
Back office functions will remain at Newport with the Cardiff office focusing on delivery of member services in the capital. There will be two councils, one representing Newport and one representing Cardiff, which will be made up of a cross-section of local businesspeople. The Cardiff office will host the Chamber’s Cardiff council meetings.
The chamber will be located at the Maltings on East Tyndall Street between the city centre and Cardiff Bay. South Wales Chamber of Commerce has 750 members with 279 of those being based in Cardiff and the surrounding areas.
